Summary

Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women was a critically acclaimed bestseller upon its publication in 1868。 It tells the story of sisters Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy March—each a young woman with a distinctive and relatable personality, a rare feature for a children’s novel at the time。 The novel continues to resonate with readers as a timeless tale of growing up。

This is the first modern edition of Little Women to feature the complete illustrations of Clara Miller Burd, originally executed in 1926。 Burd’s brilliant color plates and detailed drawings bring the world of the March family to life。 An introduction by Alice A。 Carter, an expert on Golden Age illustration, explores Burd’s life and the work of early twentieth-century women illustrators。 This new edition, handsomely bound in cloth, will be the perfect gift for all devotees of Little Women。

Monumental for its message and bravery at the time it was written。 Clear and clever prose, without being heavy handed, albeit a bit too lofty for my personal taste。 The storyline appears to be manufactured solely for the purpose of expressing excellent messages of feminism, resulting in an empty and unfulfilling plot。 Certainly a book worth studying as part of the history of American feminism, but I could not otherwise find much entertainment in it, or any justification for turning this into a f Monumental for its message and bravery at the time it was written。 Clear and clever prose, without being heavy handed, albeit a bit too lofty for my personal taste。 The storyline appears to be manufactured solely for the purpose of expressing excellent messages of feminism, resulting in an empty and unfulfilling plot。 Certainly a book worth studying as part of the history of American feminism, but I could not otherwise find much entertainment in it, or any justification for turning this into a film multiple times。 。。。more

This was the most saccharine sweet intolerable book ever。 Is it good for a 10 year old ? Yes! But for a 18 year old ? This another form of utopia。 It is a beloved classic for it is just so irrelevant and I felt disappointed at every so called high I felt in this book。

DNF at about 50% I just didn’t get on with this book, I’m not sure why。 There were parts that I very much enjoyed but overall not for me

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Little Women started out pretty well for me。 The middle was nice, too。 But the ending ruined it for me! What was the point of repeatedly enforcing the whole independent woman theme, only to disappoint with these petty little wives, married randomly and unexpectedly at the very end? I despised the couple combinations! Jo, who struck me as very independent and feminist, ending up with what’s-his-name? No way! If she absolutely HAD to get married, what was ever wrong with Laurie? I despised the couple combinations! Jo, who struck me as very independent and feminist, ending up with what’s-his-name? No way! If she absolutely HAD to get married, what was ever wrong with Laurie? Speaking of Laurie, I also thought him and Amy was a strange pairing。 But as I think about it a little more, I suppose I can see how that works。 Both are naive and whimsical…not great traits for a lasting marriage, but at least they have similar personalities! Another issue is Meg。 She’s kind of thrown out of the action early on, being the eldest and first to marry。 Couldn’t she have been less reliant on men? It’s almost like she didn’t have confidence in herself and just cracked。 So she got married, letting her husband take charge of her life。My final complaint is Beth。 Bland, boring, Beth。 She lacked so much character development! Give the girl a personality! Also, it’s unrealistic that the nice daughter dies。 Mary Sue。But again, most of those issues are just problems with the ending。 The first three fourths of the book are brilliant and inspiring, and it’s just a shame that the conclusion spoiled that。 3。5 stars。 。。。more

After being intrigued to read this book after reading “The Reading List” by Sara Nisha Adams, I found it very delightful and heartwarming。 I’ve seen the different versions of the movie and am looking forward to watching one of them again!

It's one of the best classic I've read。 After reading Austen and Bruntees I thought I won't like classics, but it changed after some real classics 😉 Little women is probably one in that list besides Anne of green gables, secret garden and little princess。 I think I should read more books like these master pieces。 I just LOVE this!! the book in itself is incredibly good and made me cry, but the movie made this even better what an amazing job from both the alcott and gerwig。

This was such a wholesome and sweet story。 I enjoyed the warmth and humor that the author used to provide realism to the characters。 This novel is a classic for a reason and the writing is very comforting。 It's the perfect book for misty autumn mornings while sipping hot tea and listening to the rain fall outside。 This was such a wholesome and sweet story。 I enjoyed the warmth and humor that the author used to provide realism to the characters。 This novel is a classic for a reason and the writing is very comforting。 It's the perfect book for misty autumn mornings while sipping hot tea and listening to the rain fall outside。 。。。more
